- Hutchinson Science Reference Suite
- Release Notes (Version 2.0)
-
- Web Browsers
- ------------
-
- In order to use HSRS you require one of the
- following Web browsers:
-
- Internet Explorer 3
- Internet Explorer 4
- Netscape Communicator 4
- Netscape Navigator 4
-
- You will be given the option of installing
- Netscape Navigator 4.04 during the installation
- process. This is recommended only if you do not
- already have one of the browsers listed above.
- If you already have an earlier (or later) version
- of Netscape, version 4.04 will replace your current
- version unless you install it to a different directory.
-
- If you wish to install Netscape 4.04 at a later date,
- uninstall HSRS using the button in your Start, Programs,
- Hutchinson Reference group, then re-install it. When asked
- if you would like to install Netscape 4.04, say Yes.
-
-
- Installation
- ------------
-
- The first time the CD-ROM is inserted, you should be
- prompted as to whether you wish to install the
- application. If this does not occur for any reason,
- run "Setup.exe" found in the root directory of the
- CD-ROM.
-
-
- Uninstalling
- ------------
-
- To remove all HSRS files from your system, an
- 'Uninstall' icon is provided in the 'Hutchinson Reference'
- program group. Note that you should only Uninstall an
- application if you wish to remove it permanently from
- your system.
-
-
- WP Link
- -------
-
- Note: WP Link is only supported on Windows 95/98 systems.
-
- Once the program is installed the WP Link Icon will
- appear in the Icon Tray on the Task Bar. A Left mouse
- click on the Icon will display the "Drop Window", click
- again and it will disappear. Once the "Drop Window" is
- active you may highlight text in applications such as
- Microsoft Word and drag them onto one of the search
- Icons.

-
- Troubleshooting
- ---------------
- I get the following messages when I try to run HSRS:
- "Could not load npicnfrm32 dynamic link library for the
- MIME type. Check you have enough memory available to load
- the plug-in."
- "Could not load tabsheet plug in for the MIME type tabsheet."
-
- This message appears if your system has certain essential
- DLL files missing. If this occurs, please contact Technical
- Support on (01865) 246448, or email support@helicon.co.uk
- for further assistance.
-
- I get an "Internet Explorer Script Error" when I try to run
- HSRS
-
- HSRS uses ActiveX controls, which must be enabled in
- your browser options. Go to View, Options, and click the
- Security tab. Now ensure that both "Enable ActiveX
- controls and plug-ins" and "Run ActiveX scripts" are
- checked. Press OK for these new settings to take effect,
- then close your browser and re-start HSRS.
-
-
- The index box to the left is always empty
-
- Internet Explorer 3 or 4: HSRS uses ActiveX controls,
- which must be enabled in your browser options. Go to
- View, Options, and click the Security tab. Now ensure
- that both "Enable ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and
- "Run ActiveX scripts" are checked. Press OK for these
- new settings to take effect, then close your browser and
- re-start HSRS.
-
- Netscape 4: HSRS uses Java and JavaScript, which must
- be enabled in your browser preferences. Go to Edit,
- Preferences, and select the Advanced section. Now
- ensure that both "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript"
- are checked. Press OK for these new settings to take
- effect, then close your browser and re-start HSRS.
-
-
- HSRS will not work with my browser.
-
- It is recommended that HSRS is viewed with one of the
- following browsers: Internet Explorer 3 or 4; Netscape 4.
- If you have problems running the PHRS with a different
- browser, you can install Netscape 4 from the HSRS CD-
- ROM. To do this, uninstall PHRS (go to Start, Programs,
- Hutchinson Reference, then Uninstall HSRS). Once the
- uninstall is complete, reinstall HSRS, and when you are
- asked whether you want the program to install Netscape
- 4, say Yes.
-
- Netscape keeps giving me Javascript errors such as:
- "Document has no properties."
-
- If you receive error messages about Netscape's failure to
- load plug-ins, you can run an installation program to load
- them from the HSRS CD. To do this, under Windows
- Explorer, double-click on your CD-ROM's drive letter,
- then on the folder called netscape plugin. Then double-
- click on the application plugininst.exe. You then need to
- close and re-start the Netscape application for this to take
- effect.
-
-
- How do I print tables and images when there's no print
- button?
-
- With the Media Browser active, press Ctrl-P (hold down
- the Control key on your keyboard, and press P). The
- standard Windows Print Dialogue will appear.
-
-
- I try to print an article, but it just prints a small icon.
- Why?
-
- Before you instruct your browser to print, you need to
- click on the text of the article. This selects the right-hand
- frame, which contains the article text, rather than the left
- frame (the default).
-
-
- How do I stop WP Link loading when I start up my PC?
-
- If you don't want WP Link to load at all when you start
- your PC, you will need to remove it from your StartUp
- program list. To do this:
- Click on Start, then Settings, then Taskbar.... Click on
- the Start Menu Programs tab, then the Remove button.
- Scroll down the list of folders under Programs, until you
- find one named StartUp. Click once on the plus sign (+)
- beside the StartUp folder, Highlight the WP Link
- program by clicking on it once, then click on the
- Remove button. Click on Close, then OK.
-
-
- I can't find an article which I know exists
-
- Ensure that the book you are trying to search is open;
- click on the relevant icon of the Toolbar to open or close
- any book. Ensure also that your Themes filter is not on;
- click on the Themes button and click on ALL.
-
-
- I clicked on a link to a Web site, and now I can't get back
- to the HSRS.
-
- The first time you go to a Web site, HSRS opens up a
- new browser window specifically for viewing web
- pages. At the same time, your PHRS browser is
- minimized to your Windows 95 Taskbar. To retrieve it,
- simply click on the button labelled "The Hutchinson
- Science Reference Suite".
-
- Once your web browser window has been opened by
- clicking on a Web link from the Internet Directory, it
- remains minimized on your Taskbar until you close the
- window. This way, you can switch between viewing web
- sites and HSRS. To view the current web site, simply
- click on the button on your Taskbar.
-
-
- I click on a link to a Web site, and I get a message saying
- it could not connect.
-
- You must have Internet access to look up Web sites.
- If you are using an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that
- requires you to log on (AOL or CompuServe, for
- example), you will need to make a connection as normal
- before the Web links will work. To do this, minimize
- the PHRS window to your Windows 95 Taskbar, connect to your
- ISP in the usual way, then maximize HSRS again. You
- will then be able to connect to Web sites via the HSRS.
- Remember to disconnect when you have finished your
- session.
-
-
- I receive a "can't open" error when I click on an entry in
- the Contents list.
-
- Ensure you are not 'double-clicking' on an entry. Your
- browser is only expecting a single click, and may give
- errors otherwise.
-
-
- Why can't I view a picture and listen to an audio clip at
- the same time?
-
- When you click on any multimedia item, the PHRS
- opens up a new browser window - the Media Window.
- This enables you to easily switch between HSRS and
- viewing pictures in the Media window. As different
- media items are selected, they replace the contents of the
- Media window.
-
-
- Why have I got three browser buttons on my Windows
- Taskbar?
-
- As well as the browser for the HSRS itself, if you have
- viewed a web site via the Directory of Web Sites and listened
- to an audio clip, without closing their respective browser
- windows, they will be minimized to the Taskbar when
- you return to the HSRS browser.
-
-
- Why do books I haven't selected keep appearing as open
- on the HSRS taskbar?
-
- If you have followed a hyperlink to an article in a
- different book to those you already have open, that book
- will automatically open, and its contents will be added to
- the index list on the left-hand side of the screen.
